The Little Things *positive thread*

Posted in

Hello to all!

I've been doing Matia's treatment since June 2008. It's been hard and hard and hard, lonely, and most of the time, I just didn't know if I was ever going to get better, even just a little better!

But I am, *a little* better. There are little things, little signs, that show me that my body will recover from IC. Most of the people who recover don't turn back to show us how bright it is on the other side and I do not blame them, in fact, I am looking forward forgetting about this illness all together too :-)

Patient Request

A patient asked me the other day to give healthy meal ideas for kids, so here it goes:

Breakfast,
a) unsweetened kiefer or yoghurt mixed with whole grain agave sweetened granola
If you use yoghurt, the Greek yoghurts are higher in protein and a better choice, especially for breakfast when you are trying to get a half and half protein to carb balance.
b) eggs and brocolli (or some other veggie that your child likes) mixed in with whole grain toast
c) yoghurt and berries (or any other kind of fruit your child likes)
d) whole grain pancakes (pamela's is a GREAT choice) sprinke some agave on top and don't forget to mix in an egg and milk to increase the protein.
e) Cottage cheese and pineapple

December's First ICAMA Support Group Meeting

...will be at 4 pm Pacific time. We will be using Gizmo5 to connect long distance comers to the meeting. Please use my email to email me privately to receive private invitations to the meeting. I look forward to this event, and am thrilled that it can be done. I am certain the first meeting will be a little rocky in that I have never held a support group meeting before, but I am certain that practice will make perfect, and that we will have a great group of people.

I need help dealing with my anxiety. The past two years have been too much stress on my body and on top of the IC I don't know how to deal with it all. I need any stress mangament ideas please. I haven't left my house more then 6 times in 7 months excpet for some light walking in my neiberhood.

I am so tired that I can't even seem to walk that much. i just have no energy.

Kid Stuff

As I have mentioned many times before, children born to women having IC are much more likely to have IC or some other kind of chronic illness. From time to time I post articles on issues with children, and along with the desire to impart ideas on total family health, these ideas are also to help give those babies who are more vulnerable because of this issue a better chance for a stronger immune system. These two articles are interesting:

A Beautiful Heart

I wanted to say that through the years, one of the greatest experiences that takes place is the relationship that develops between the person I am treating and myself. I have met so many lovely people over the years. And, as I have said before, in doing this work, it has been really wonderful to connect people that are otherwise worlds apart in commonality and in proximity--heart to heart.

Interstitial Cystitis New Babies

Recently more past and current patients seem to be thinking it is spring time:) OK not that, they are getting pregnant, well, they actually got pregnant. IT is really lovely. This is my favorite part of treatment. Pregnancy can be such a wonderful bridge between having been ill for so many years with interstitial cystitis and creating a new and healthy life for one's self, and then the ultimate--bringing a new life into the world. How wonderful is that? I work with these women (if they want me to) to help through the pregnancy so that certain common practices recommended in pregnancy do not interrupt the progress or the symptom free state they have been able to achieve. It is a very rewarding time in the journey towards wellness for the woman who is pregnant and for me.

The Scoop On The Poop

Remember what your body is designed to do. Each day we eat, we take that food and liquid in, we assimilate our vitamins and we excrete the balance of what is left over. We cannot do these things if we do not leave time for our bodies to conduct these processes. IN today's worl we run around with busy schedules and eat while working and eat while standing--we multi-task. Remember to try and slow things down a bit. Eat dinner with your family, take a rest in the middle of the day to eat a meal. Most importantly, wake up in the morning far in advance of starting your day. LEave time to wake up slowly think about the day, clear your head from your dreams. EAt your breakfast, and POOP! You cannot poop if you don't leave time in your day to do it.

tmj, sinus and jaw pain

I am currently suffering from sinus pain, a watery eye and now, sore jaw. It is hard to stay clear headed and not think this is maybe an infection.
At the beginning of treatment I did go through the die off in the jaw and sinuses and then that disappeared .
It's now returned 2 months later and is worrisome. It would help to know if any of you have these symptoms.
Also, does anyone have symptoms come on later in the day after having no problem earlier?
I do plan to talk with Matia, but waiting for appointment time...Lois

What brands of breads do you all buy. The whole foods stoped carring pacific bakery and I can't seem to find anything. The min order is 20 + 20 shipping and I am not even sure I will tolerate it. I don't know why I used to tolerate more things now I seem to tolerate less so discoraging. With the holliday coming and my birthday I am getting very deperssed. I need ideas
