Deoderant

I have been using Tom's of Maine deodorant for along time.  Recently it no longer works for me.  Just wondering what else is approved to use that works as an antiperspirant.

Thanks - Breis

I just smell like a beast.  None of the natural stuff works for me!

I am with researchnerd! Nothing really works, but I use desert essence tea tree oil with lavender oil. I think works at least a little better then Tom's of Maine in my personal opinion. Have to reapply throughout the day! I am the stinky girl!:(

Hey Girls,

I got this idea for homemade deoderant from Angela, and it works really well for me.  Mix together 1/2 tsp each baking soda, cornstarch, and olive oil.  Sometimes I use a little extra olive oil to get a creamy, rather than pasty, consistency.  Use your fingers to apply.

I know this sounds too simple to work, but it really does!  In the winter I only had to apply it every few days because it was so effective!  This is Dr. B approved for me, and I am super sensitive to EVERYTHING, so I think it would be ok for most people.

A couple cautions, at first this mixture caused some itching under my arms, but then I made sure the mixture had enough olive oil to offset the abrasiveness of the baking soda and it was fine.  After about three days, I make a new batch because it starts to go rancid.

Do you just store this at room temp? Also, I wonder if potato starch would work, pretty sensitive to corn? Thanks Lisa!

Yes, at room temperature.  Try potato starch and let me know how it goes!

I use Lafe's unscented roll on deodorant, it really works even when I'm in major detox mode, and its mild enough to use after shaving, (Toms of maine never worked for me and I had a major allergic reaction to it early in treatment), I order lafe's from Vitacost http://www.vitacost.com/lafes-natural-and-organic-roll-on-deodorant-unscented or amazon  and I've seen the lavender spray one at Bomamed's office.

Wanted to let you guys know that I think I may be sensitive to the homemade deodorant recipe that I posted on this thread. It's been over a year that I've used it so I'm not really sure, but I decided not to use any deodorant for the last couple of months except when I absolutely needed to, and I feel like it's making a difference in the burning when I pee. Dr. M said it is probably the baking soda that is the culprit. When I first wanted to try it, Dr. M said it was fine (I ALWAYS ask her first before I do anything new) as long as it didn't cause more pain, and it didn't at the time. But I'm wondering if it was a cumulative effect. Again, I don't even know if it was/is truly causing a problem, but I wanted to put it out there.  I feel really bad about this and I feel like I'm doing a recall on something I thought was awesome and safe. I'm so sorry if anyone else has been hurt by this deodorant.

Now I am looking for alternatives. I just bought some unscented Lafe spray to try. I've tried the lavender in the past, but I flared from it.
