December's First ICAMA Support Group Meeting

...will be at 4 pm Pacific time. We will be using Gizmo5 to connect long distance comers to the meeting. Please use my email to email me privately to receive private invitations to the meeting. I look forward to this event, and am thrilled that it can be done. I am certain the first meeting will be a little rocky in that I have never held a support group meeting before, but I am certain that practice will make perfect, and that we will have a great group of people.

Kid Stuff

As I have mentioned many times before, children born to women having IC are much more likely to have IC or some other kind of chronic illness. From time to time I post articles on issues with children, and along with the desire to impart ideas on total family health, these ideas are also to help give those babies who are more vulnerable because of this issue a better chance for a stronger immune system. These two articles are interesting:
http://www.naturalnews.com/024796.html
http://www.naturalnews.com/024797.html

A Beautiful Heart

I wanted to say that through the years, one of the greatest experiences that takes place is the relationship that develops between the person I am treating and myself. I have met so many lovely people over the years. And, as I have said before, in doing this work, it has been really wonderful to connect people that are otherwise worlds apart in commonality and in proximity--heart to heart.

Interstitial Cystitis New Babies

Recently more past and current patients seem to be thinking it is spring time:) OK not that, they are getting pregnant, well, they actually got pregnant. IT is really lovely. This is my favorite part of treatment. Pregnancy can be such a wonderful bridge between having been ill for so many years with interstitial cystitis and creating a new and healthy life for one's self, and then the ultimate--bringing a new life into the world. How wonderful is that? I work with these women (if they want me to) to help through the pregnancy so that certain common practices recommended in pregnancy do not interrupt the progress or the symptom free state they have been able to achieve. It is a very rewarding time in the journey towards wellness for the woman who is pregnant and for me.

The Scoop On The Poop

Remember what your body is designed to do. Each day we eat, we take that food and liquid in, we assimilate our vitamins and we excrete the balance of what is left over. We cannot do these things if we do not leave time for our bodies to conduct these processes. IN today's worl we run around with busy schedules and eat while working and eat while standing--we multi-task. Remember to try and slow things down a bit. Eat dinner with your family, take a rest in the middle of the day to eat a meal. Most importantly, wake up in the morning far in advance of starting your day. LEave time to wake up slowly think about the day, clear your head from your dreams. EAt your breakfast, and POOP! You cannot poop if you don't leave time in your day to do it.

A Way Of Life

Understanding the issues that lead up to IC and perpetuate it is an interesting and difficult task. I was speaking to someone today about this subject, a patient whos medical history led her down a road of disaster one decision at a time since her early childhood. None of this was the fault of her, her family, and surely not even her doctors. Everyone was thinking logically and methodically from one step to the next. But, the logic used was one which we subscribe to in our Western society. As someone said to my husband only last week, "there is no other way of looking at anything other than through the scientific method". Well, some would say that is completely true, while others would disagree. What is a shame is the rigidity with which people often need to view things.

Week's End

As many of you know every week I write something hopefully useful to each of you regarding Interstitial Cystitis. Typically I only post things I know or things that are in article form. This week something came accross my desk that is neither of those two exactly, but because it encapsulates familiar stories of other kinds of medications (not just the one mentioned here) I thought I should bring it to the attention of the ICAMA readers. I sit and listen to story after story of how each person that I treat came down with IC. Or at least my own interpretation of how it happened. And, it is never one thing exactly.
