Medical Liquids

Hi, everyone. I'm new here, but I wanted to post a tip that might be helpful to some. You all may have figured this out, so forgive any redundancy. I fly a lot for work, and I imagine I'll be able to get the right types of water in most airports, but I read this today on the TSA website.

You may bring all prescription and over-the-counter medications (liquids, gels, and aerosols) including petroleum jelly, eye drops, and saline solution for medical purposes.

Additional items you may bring include:

  • Liquids including water, juice, or liquid nutrition or gels for passengers with a disability or medical condition;
  • Life-support and life-sustaining liquids such as bone marrow, blood products, and transplant organs;
  • Items used to augment the body for medical or cosmetic reasons such as mastectomy products, prosthetic breasts, bras or shells containing gels, saline solution, or other liquids; and,
  • Gels or frozen liquids needed to cool disability or medically related items used by persons with disabilities or medical conditions.

You are not limited in the amount or volume of these items you may bring in your carry-on baggage. BUT if the medically necessary items exceed 3 ounces or are not contained in a one-quart, zip-top plastic bag, you MUST declare to one of our Security Officers at the checkpoint for further inspection.

For more information on these measures, please read our memo outlining our policy.Changes in Allowances for Persons with Disabilities at Airport Security Checkpoints(PDF, 101 KB)

I'm giving it a try this week and will let you know how it goes!

lol--- I just flew last week and packed a pound of frozen grass fed beef with my probiotics for my ice pack.  I also had a salad, fruit, and I pulled it out, explained, and they said no problem.  I made the beef into burgers when I got to Mom's house in Florida.  I have also packed cucumbers, hard boiled eggs, rice cakes, etc.
I had a bottle of smart water and they threw it away.  I forgot to say I needed it for medical reasons.  Any advice?  I also got some organc tea tree/olive oil lotion in Fl and am having Mom mail it home because I thought they would toss it and did not want to chance it.  It was for medical reasons but I had not read this post at the time.  I did bring back olive oil soap with tea tree in it no problem.

I brought my own food when I few to LA. I was so happy I did. It also helped to function during the long flight. I had a nice nutritious lunch and a snack on the plane. I didn't have to worry about where to get next meal and there wasn't a time when I was hungry.
I also packed food before I left LA. I bought snacks and veggies from the Whole Foods.
