Understanding the cause of a flare

I have been in a funk this week and am having flares everyday.  I had been taking my herbs with meals.  Today I am going to start taking them between meals to figure out what is causing my trouble.  I don't want to cut out any more foods unless it is absolutely necessary.
How do you figure out what is causing the flare?

this can be hard esp at the early stages. I don't ever add anything in when adjusting an herb. if you are not taking oil based herbs then you don't need to take it with your food trying to take it about an hr appart from food might give you a better inclination of where your at. It is important here that you might journal if your not allready. Now before you eat sit down and commit to a number pain wise where you are. DOn't stress about the number it really doesn't matter what number it is. What does matter is if the number is higher or lower after you eat. SO by the next time you have gone to the bathroom after your meal sit down and write what pain level your at according to what you have eaten. Then take your dose. about an hr later and after you have peed sit down and write what number you are at again. this should help you keep a clear picture. I don't know how much pain you have so your other question about when to write matia about pain is very unique. Now I don't know what you can tollerate. It's not as if we all go on the diet take the herbs and poof the pain is gone. Sometimes pain is increased when the immune system is being pushed. you might discuss this with Matia on a personal level this way you both know what you are expecting in treatment. What i mean by that is how much you can handle being pushed. Maybe right now you cant handle a lot but later you can handle more.  Sometimes i would just tell her X is going on i am taking Y and if Y is causing die off then I will push through x but if x is inflamation then lets adjust.

Nicole- that is such an awesome explanation. this area is so tricky to muddle through and understand as an individual much less to explain to anyone else. I think i just want to contribute that as time goes by at least for me I started to take note of my body's language in terms of pain, reactions and sensations. I get a pain I get with probiotics that is vastly different from any other kind of pain flare so  I know its the probiotics and not the ovulation- ya feel me? you develop a kind of internal index of detailed and nuanced sensations- a pain dictionary if you will if you are paying good attention. I was flaring kind of ALLLLL the time in the beginning. I didn't have alot of control for a long time. everything hurt and I now recognize how much because I feel better in comparison. I had no idea I was in so much pain because it had become normalized to a certain tortured extent. my flares from trying new things at the moment are way milder than they were in the beginning. they last only a few hours whereas they used to linger for days if I ate something I wasn't ready to eat.

Nicole and Hneybee, Thanks for the great advice.  I am going to start keeping a journal.  I seem to be spending so much time taking care of my family and putting myself last.  Thankfully, my darlings are back in school and I will have all day to work on getting better :)Sharon
