I was thinking about taking my little daughter to see Matia. She was born while I was imbalanced, consequently went through rounds of antibiotics for ear infections. My daughter displays signs of imbalance. I am already giving her probiotics by Natren. I also watch what she eats. I am curious about what Matia's treatment will be like for the little one. It is a long trip. Somehow, I am wondering what can be done on the top of what I am already doing.
If your child is in treatment with Dr B, please post here or email me what the treatment is like. Thank you.
I would also really love this
I would also really love this information so if anyone has it- please post here.
Thanks!
Highly recommended!
My daughter and I took the trip and started treatment together. She was 7 at the time. She had struggled with UTI's, vaginitis, yeast infections, constipation, and ear/sinus infections most of her life. It was the best thing I could have done for her. Matia has helped her through all of these things. She had a while at the beginning that was hard. She couldn't swallow pills and had to take some very yucky tasting herbs. She also had a lot of "junk" to get out of her body. This resulted in some bouts of ear/sinus infections, and strep throat, which Matia treated successfully WITHOUT antibiotics! Do it while they are young. Matia told me that the children heal more quickly. It's true.
Emmarenee, Thank you so much
Emmarenee, Thank you so much for posting! My oldest daughter is 8 and I am thinking of having her become one of Dr.B's patients as well. My question for you is treatment protocol the same for children as for adults? So, is the treatment still threefold of probiotics, supplements and diet? Is the diet still pretty restrictive for children? I have cut out all the junk in my daughter's diet already, but with school birthday treats, sleepovers etc.... I am just wondering if treatment would still be effective given that my daughter wouldn't really understand how one "splurge" could set back progress significantly. Does that make sense?
Thanks, Katie
Katie- have you taken all
Katie- have you taken all sugar and yeast out of her diet or just real junk food? I wrestle with this so much and i am trying to avoid getting psycho about it. We were already WAY better than the norm. My kids eat plain yogurt, raw milk, grass fed beef etc no juice or soda but it is so difficult especially with school to have them eating totally clean. I have also found that ironically since I have been sick, I've been less careful out of convenience or whatever. More cereal, school lunches etc.
Anyway- this is a HUGE topic but I am always interested in how other people navigate the kids and eating issue!
My kids don't seem to have any obvious imbalance issues although my toddler i s really tiny and often has a diaper rash. her doc said the rash was because her immune system just isn't quite strong enough. My 6 yr old still wets the bed often and that really scares me but in other ways- they seem healthy. It is such a balance to feed kids right but then not get them obsessive about food. Also I need to watch my stress level so I don't get too crazy about it! Ugh. I know that ignorance isn't really bliss but I look around at some of my friends and I am not so sure if that isn't true sometimes!
Hi Deir;) My family is on the
Hi Deir;) My family is on the same diet we are on when they are at home. I cook three meals a day now.... as we all do..I am sure;) and so whatever I am eating is what they eat. So, yes, all the junk food is out of my house for my husband and my girls. I do buy things for them that I simply cannot tolerate yet, but still use good judgement is purchasing things that are healthy.
But, my 8 year old is a social little thing and is regularly out of the house. I explain to her why we have the food in the house that we do, but I do not mind when she has pizza or a slice of cake for someone's birthday. We can only control what we can control;) does that make sense? I also think that it is important for her not to be left out of a birthday snack at school (for example) just because she is scared she will end up like her mom. That being said, she has never had any bladder issues. Her imbalance is excessively dry skin on her legs. She is not ill frequently and has not been on antibiotics more than once or twice in her life. So, I figure she is getting a better start than I did and the best I can do is educate her without fear. The rest will be up to her when she is grown;)
REgarding ignorance as bliss.... a friend complimented me the other day about how knowledgeable I have become regarding health and dietary choices... I had to laugh because the only thought that went through my head was... Frankly, I wish I didn't have to know any of it;) IC is a strange sort of "gift".
I hear ya though.. being a parent is the toughest and most rewarding job I could possibly imagine! Hope you are still enjoying a good spell!

to answer your questions
Emma was put on oil of oreg, goldenseal, Matia's herbs and probiotics. Very yucky stuff if you can't swallow a pill. Her diet is eating healthy and cutting out all soy and peanuts. We always watch her sugar. It sounds like you are doing everything right where your kids diets are concerned. Having your daughter see Matia would never be a bad choice. Matia would be available to you for the childhood illnesses that are so often treated with antibiotics. I was amazed to see how fast Emma recovered from strep throat on herbs.
That's a great point
That's a great point Emmarenee and I think it is the one that is the most attractive to me... having Matia be "on call" for my daughter as she goes through her childhood and not have her take an antibiotic for strep or whatever else comes her way. I am still fairly new to treatment (6 months) but have been most impressed with the dramatic way an additional herb has knocked out an oncoming cold or dealt effectively with an infection. I am just comforted to have an equally effective, yet less destructive method to deal with illness.
I believe I remember reading in a former post that you are feeling well in treatment. Are you still? I ask because I hope so! The more success stories I hear, the more healing becomes real.
Thank you for sharing,
Katie
I'm doing very well!
My daughter and I started treatment in October of 2008. I felt steadily better and have been on list 4/5 for over a year. One day you will have to stop and think...hmmm when did I start to feel better? It just happens and you are living again. Living a much better life.
hello gals! yes, i'm also
hello gals!
yes, i'm also interested in bringing sophia to see dr. b. she had couple of ear infections and unfortunately, she's been on antibiotics which makes me feel really uncomfortable giving it to her. i like the herbal approach in dealing with infections. in terms of the strict diet, i feel that it may be tough to do since she's only 2 yrs old...maybe when she's a little bit older and have a better understanding in what mom is saying, then i think it will be less of a torture for her and i.
I hope all of u are having painless days...or better yet painFREE days!
not as strict a diet as for us
I want to be clear. The diet that Matia put my daughter on at age 7 was simply to eat healthy. Meat/starch/veggies. She took out peanuts, soy and greatly reduced sugar. She was able to eat fruit, honey, and maple sugar but not to excess. The sooner you start your kids on the path of herbal healing, the better. Every time you have to use antibiotics is harmful to their health. Don't under estimate your daughter. She can do it! I know Matia has raised both her children using herbs.
Anyone out there with boys?
If so, have they shown any signs of bladder issues?
I have a soon to be 5 year old son and have been trying hard to limit his sugar intake and junk food. He sees that I eat differently but I'm now wondering if I need to start him on probiotics? I dont see any signs of issues, just dairy consumption in the mornig (his body cant handle cold dairy in the AM which I recall I was the same growing up). He had his very 1st ear infection about a month ago and yes, unfortunately, he was on ammoxicillan. I want to know of an alternate solution if he were to ever get another ear infection. Other than that, he eats really healthy for the most part. When he was a baby, I made him pureed food from scratch even though I worked FT and it was exhausting. Just a few weekends ago, I made himm homemade applesauce with blueberries and homemae chicken soup. He loved it!
No juice (just water and milk/havent introduced raw milk yet), soda on occasion from dad but sips here and there only (maybe once a month). No more fast food for my husband, I cannot believe that! This is a miracle in itself since he now sees what I'm going through (we cook food at home). Its funny since my husband told me just a few nights ago... what our son will be like when he goes over to a friends house later and realizes the difference in food consumption (junk vs. healthy).
Lastly, what kind of lunches do you ladies pack your kids? we no longer buy processed lunch meat (just no nitrate/fresh real deli meat) but he does eat wheat bread daily. I used to pack him rice/chicken/veggie for lunch which I will need to stat back again. The occasiona Mac N cheese from the box is last minute which I know is bad but when I dont have time for real food, I throw in a veggie in the mac and cheese. Any kids lunch suggestions?
Vacuum flasks...
I have been using these for years for my kids' lunches. Usual fare is pasta, rice, potatoes with meat, chicken drumsticks, etc. or even a little of what we had the night before. The kids also get a natural yoghurt and fruit; perhaps a buttered rice cake (my kids love healthy food - they do eat junk at birthday parties, but not often). I bake my own bread so they get sandwiches too. I buy a natural (unsmoked) gammon and bake it to make my own ham.

probiotics YES!
My son was only 3 when my daughter and I started treatment with Maita. He has not shown any bladder issues but had had a few ear/sinus infections and was battling constipation but I never connected the these things to my imbalance. As I learned more about the "all over body" effects of IC and how important gut health is, I realized he needed help too. I was/am very fortunate to have found a wonderful TCH where we live. Nate has been going to get acupuncture (yep he's proud to tell anybody who'll listen that he takes points/needles!) & herbal treatment for about 2 years now. Now we treat his occassional ear/sinus infections with herbs. No more antibiotics. Taking your kids to see Matia is a great idea. She will set them up for a lifetime of good health.
Don't underestimate your kids. I thought it would be immpossible to get my kids to take the yucky tasting herbs. They have been great. We had a few gags but they both learned very quickly that if they hold their nose and swish with water before "unplugging" it's not that bad. They know that it's a better way to cure what ails them. I'm very proud of them!
I have had both of my kids on probiotics for years. They have helped in so many ways. Both my kids poop everyday. :) This is huge for us. I have both on Natren. I do have another brand that I used before switching to Natren that I would recommend if anyboy is interested. It is more affordable and a good alternative.
I began experiencing IC
I began experiencing IC symptoms 7 years ago when I was pregnant with my 1st daughter. My 4 year old I was IC flaring through most of that pregnancy. SO needless to say, I am very concerned about my kids being born in this world with an imbalance. Both my girls have sensitive skin and my 4.o. has eczema. Daily I give them probiotics and Vitamin D. They have No bladder issues.. they both have animal allergies like me but not as bad as me. They get itchy if they touch/play with cats and dogs. I feel like I have a long way to go in the food area. I thought I was feeding them pretty good.. Fruits and veggies daily.. but they still eat sugar. I try to buy a lot of it from Whole Foods so it is more natural.. they are constantly wanting junk and it is a battle. We do natural chips.. however I have a sitter who lives by me and brings them junk. She is so wonderful that I feel bad telling her to not bring my kids junk food.. but in the big picture I know it is worth it. I feel like I am always battling with my kids. They are not allowed pop but still ask when we go out for pop. My husband needs reminders too. He does not really understand how bad pop is for you... I try to teach but also pick my battles cause you can go crazy. When I am through treatment I will focus on them getting treatment with Matia... I think they need to be more educated from someone other then me. The peanut thing is interesting. We only do peanutbutter once in awhile but maybe we should eliminate. Can anyone tell me healthy snack food they give their kiddos?? Thanks Rice cakes and butter they do not like.
I switched from using peanut
I switched from using peanut butter to almond butter. They didn't notice the difference.
