Flare or relapse

How do you tell the difference between a flare or a relapse? A week ago I ate a plain burger and fries at an unfamiliar restaurant. I foolishly didn't ask about how the fries are prepared. That night I had bladder spasms and discomfort.  I've been exceptionally lucky to not have discomfort last more than a day and I certainly haven't  had this level of discomfort.  Until now!  What I'm feeling is very reminiscent of when my IC first began and I'm kind of flipping out about it.   i have noticed over the last few months that foods I could tolerate I no longer can eat. Boaz changed my protocol to address inflammation under my arm from surgery and it didn't go well.  He finally gave up and had me return to my previous protocol. In addition, for the last 6 months I've been peeing some bubbles. Boaz tried to add SF722 but I wasn't able to tolerate it. It feels like I've been on a downward slide for months.  I did email Boaz and he said to just wait and see. It's beginning to feel like I'm back at square one. Anybody have any thoughts?

I would think it's just a flare since it started after eating something that seemed to have triggered it. This disease is so hard to figure out, but hopefully it will begin to settle down soon. It could have been the switch in protocol that set it off. Are you eating the same things all the time? I know that has sometimes made me start to react when am not switching up my food like I should, becomes sensitive as I'm always eating it. Hope you start to feel better!

you may already be doing this but anytime I have a protocol change I get some bladder irritation so I always try to up my water consumption for a few days to help flush things. It does sound like a flare but hang in there Boaz is really good at figuring things out. Maybe go back to list one temporarily and as Christina said try changing your foods up each day.  I am sorry for your pain and hope things calm down soon for you.

I have been eating a wide variety foods. Perhaps a little too varied. I was so happy when I discovered I could eat beef kabobs from a local restaurant. Ecstatic when I realized I could eat burritos and fajitas from Los Tios. I wasn't eating out a lot but definitely every other week.  I believed as long as I wasn't eating things with sugar, msg, alcohol, soy etc I'd be fine. I think my body finally said enough.  Chemo does a great job of suppressing the immune system and the doctors told me my IC would improve. They were right. Now that my immune system is better I think I'm back to where I was before with the IC. It's just a big bummer. I got a taste of what "normal" eating is like and enjoyed the normalcy of it! Wah. I'm sure Boaz will have a plan for me when I speak to him next week.

That is so hard, to have some sense of normalcy and for the symptoms to return, but you will get there. Yes, I'm sure Boaz will get you back on track. Hang in there you've made it through so much! This is just a little blip!
