hormones/pregnancy/diet etc

Hello everyone. Was hoping to get some feedback. Okay so I had my monthly apt with Boaz today. He believes that much of my urgency/frequency is due to hormones and I agree. I got my perod last month, the issue with this is that this was 3months after giving birth to my daughter and I am breastfeeding. Boaz says that this is not normal and I agree. He admits that much of my symptoms probably do not have a great deal to do with what I eat and that the diet is just designed in a way for one not to feel worse. After my period came last month my urgency got so much worse and remains worse. I have a great deal of vaginal itching which I didn't have much of before. Since being pregnant and postpartum everything has just gotten so bad. Boaz wants me to follow up with my OB which I will regarding my period already coming back but I'm not sure what exactly she can do. I am taking 3 RP, 1 superdophilus and now 2 gao mai lin. Anyway I am worried and frustrated because if this is strictly hormone related I'm not sure how all this will get worked out. Each week I am feeling worse and worse and am terrified that my symptoms will only get worse/progress and that I will begin to experience significant pain. Again I have always been grateful to only have to deal with urgency but even that has been quite bad. My daughter already sleeps thru the night which I know is a blessing but for me I am up every half hour because I have to pee. I am so fearful that my daughter is going to grow up with a sick mother, I am getting so depressed dealing with all this. Another issue is we think there is mold where we are staying but we are not able to move out anytime soon. Overall friends and family are supportive but no one seems to think the mold is an issue. In any case I am hoping that we can have the mold tested but my Dad keeps saying its too expensive :( I just feel like giving up most days because I am doing my best to care for my daughter all the while dealing with this horrid urinary urgency.

Real quick- (((HUG)))) No- it is not "average" to get a pd while breastfeeding 3 months PP but it can is still with be within the realm of "normal"

If you use any pacifiers or bottles- even with pumped milk , your body can get the message that you don't need to maintain the non fertile hormones. The fact that your daughter is sleeping through the night is a blessing and a curse. Most breastfed babies are still nursing in the night at this age so it keeps the body thinking in a sense, "I can't get pregnant again" Does that make sense? It is rare to get it so early and yes- not the ideal. Exclusive through the night and day breastfeeding is the only way in insure you don't get a period. Now, generally, even with pacifiers etc, people's bodies hold off. I got my period at 10 months pp with all 3 kids but they were all nursing through the night still at that age at least 2x- maybe more. My sister was 18 months pp before she got a period. But I have a friend who got PG 6 or so weeks after giving birth and she was nursing. So, I don't want you to think you are totally abnormal or messed up more than you are (IC sucks!) it may have somehting to do with IC or may have more to do with your daughter's breastfeeding style

Gotta go- but I am thinking of you my dear!!! hang in there

Ps- I know how easy it is to worry that things will get worse but that does nothing for you! Try to stay in today as tough as it is. Hormones are directly related to gut health so as your gut heals, your hormones will also balance out hopefully.

I agree with Deir,

babycenter says 'But the less often your baby nurses, the sooner your period may come back. So if your baby sleeps through the night from an early age, or if you're supplementing with formula, it's likely your period will return sooner than six months'.

things like pacifier and sleeping in separate rooms often extend baby's sleep.

so probably more breastfeeding related than ic related.

treatment with diet, herbs and probiotics resulted in a huge change in my hormones, I got a regular cycle, which I'd never had before! It is all part of the body getting back into balance!

Oh my!! My heart goes out to you so much!! I had a baby (also a girl) three months ago and know how difficult it is to take care of a baby when you're not feeling well :( my IC symptoms significantly improved postpartum for some reason, but I have noticed that they get worse with hormonal fluctuations (which I can always detect due to changes in my complexion - it's always been that way). I know it's draining (physically, mentally, and emotionally), discouraging, and frustrating. I know the worry and fear that it will never get better and how that would affect your ability to be the mother you want to be for your daughter. Please don't give up hope! Also, please stick up for yourself as much as you can! I too know all too well how family and friends can be generally supportive but look at you like you have three heads if you attribute some of your discomfort to things they might consider "normal" (like mold). Just because it doesn't affect them (or at least appear to) doesn't mean it doesn't affect you - you're unwell. Your body is more fragile/sensitive right now, and if they want you to heal faster, they should fully support any efforts toward that end! I often doubt myself and have a hard time sticking up for what I need, but it always hurts me, and I hate seeing that happen to anyone else! You just had a baby while dealing with a major chronic condition and need to be cut some major slack! I applaud you and support you in spirit. Go Mom!!

Thanks everyone :) I should mention that what I meant by her sleeping thru the night is that she sleeps well but I do wake her up twice to feed her so that's why Boaz and I thought it odd that my period came so soon. also I dont mind my period coming back, just now it seems Boaz thinks my IC is due to a hormonal imbalance. the thing I cant stand is the urgency, drives me nuts and as many of you know its awful to have to go to the bathroom so often when carng for a baby!

OH! I see!! Makes sense. I do think many of us can attribute hormonal imbalnce as part of our IC picture. SO, I don't know if he means you are vastly different in some way. I am sure my hormones have a huge part in this becaus my IC came on right WHEN I got my first PP period. I can only imagine how you are struggling. I think having a new baby is so hard! But then again- having kids my kids' ages and having IC seems impossible too. The whole thing seems impossible! But you are in good hands and your body wants to balance. You are giving it all the right things to do so. Hang in there, mom, you are doing your best and darn it- I wish it was easier for you. It won't always be this hard. I know it in my heart. better days will come. (((((hug))))

Thanks Deir ;) truly appreciate the support and I know I'm not the only one struggling. It's a tough road for all of us whether we have kids or not!

Were you ever able to get your hormones under control without treating the hormones? I want to start treating with Boaz, but also think mine is due to hormones, and I don't really think diet effects me. I was on birth control for a very long time, and I think it was keeping my IC under control. When I stopped, I had a ton of weird symptoms come on, including urgency. It's been 5 months since my urgency started, and the pain, urgency, and frequency all get worse each month at my period. My periods are also now irregular, and my hormone levels are not normal. I'm just afraid that by doing this treatment, if I don't address the hormones and getting them balanced, then the diet and herbs aren't going to help me since I don't think diet affects me.

btarrh- hormones are a big factor with IC but this treatment fixes the cause of your hormones being wacky. Everythign starts somewhere. The question is why aren't your hormones balanced? That is what they address

Correct me if I'm wrong - aren't some of the herbs that are used help balance hormones?  Such as Siberian Ginsing?  I know that it's used for Thyroid - and I believe to regulate periods?  I think, also that Rhodiola, has a lesser effect in that regard.  I could be wrong, due to my age, this isn't something that we've addressed.

Lot of the herbs address hormones
