Why does food have to hurt so much???

Does anyone else have a huge fear of eating because of the pain it may cause? I swear I would stop eating if it would allow me to be pain free! Tried to eat out and stick with all my safer foods, but don't think the veggies were quite cooked enough. I just want to be able to enjoy some time with friends and feel normal. Sorry more of a vent than anything! Thanks for listening!!!

Hey CP,
I am so sorry to hear you flared from eating out! My deepest wish for you is that you catch a break! You have been through so much;( How is the ripping feeling in your belly? I sure hope it feels better. Give yourself major props for going out and placing yourself in the dinner situation to feel normal....it is not always easy.

Hi Katie! It is just so hard for me to believe my stomach and bladder are ever going to get better. So tired of the constant pain and worry of how terribly my body will react. I have isolated myself so much that it's affecting my relationships, so I need to start getting back into life and hope my body doesn't retaliate. Right now it is the very painful bowels and feeling like my kidneys have been kicked repeatedly that reminds me why I removed myself from restaurant eating. The bladder ripping pain has settled a little, not constant at the moment anyway, can feel it more when quick try to move as my dogs try to give me some love or right after eating. Hope you are doing well!

Hi CPrince,
I am so very sorry for your pain. I tried 2 t. Of butter two weeks ago and am just now getting over the ramifications of that choice. Dairy causes severe inflammation in my bowels, and so far no matter how long I go in treatment, I just can't tolerate it. Likewise with the nightshades, I was cross contaminated accidentally twice in one month by family members, once with potatoes, and once with tomatoes. I burned in my intestines for a couple of days on both, and I didn't even eat the food - it was cross contaminated with cooking utensils. Then after I burn, I get inflammation. After inflammation, I get prolapse and/or bleeding hemmorhoids.
It's awful. Just recently I have come to the conclusion that I can't eat out anywhere or eat food prepared by someone else. But I am very social, so I bring my food with me wherever I go. I'd rather be safe than sorry at this point. :)

It is wonderful that your bladder is calmer. The bowels will follow as well as everything else as you become more and more balanced. I pray so much for wisdom as to what to eat and when. I cannot have dairy, nightshades, or grains but I have been able to add in butternut squash, beets, and rhutabagas recently. This was just a dream before! Also for some crazy reason, sipping hot water really helps me.

Another thing that helps me is keeping notes on my diet and how I react to it, as well as researching and constantly learning. I just finished reading for the second time "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" by Elaine Gotschal which I found so
fascinating. It's especially informative for those who have severe intestinal problems, which is my brother-in-law, so I have been trying to help him through that book and diet. But I have learned a lot myself.

I wish you could come to my house and I would cook your safe foods for you. If I am in an intestinal flare, I always make a soup of sauteed broccoli, celery, onions, and cabbage the covered with water and a couple tablespoons of olive oil with some salt and tolerated seasonings. Cover and cook 20 min. Then puree with a hand blender. I really do well on healing with this and some fish or chicken. Calms things down. I will eat it all three meals for awhile until I feel better.

I pray you get some relief soon. Lots of love sent to you!

Hi Mrs. A, thank you for all your kind words and suggestions and so sorry you are dealing with intestinal stuff still. I don't know what it is with the bowels, but there is no pain quite like it. Doesn't help there is so much of it too. I wish I could say my bladder has improved overall, but it hasn't, it is rare that my bladder has excruciating pain, I have more urgency and frequency issues since I was 5 and pain level stays around 3-4 bladder wise. I get the excruciating pain in my bladder when something I have put on my body or eaten is really bad. Most of my pain has been primarily my esophagus, stomach, liver, bowels, and pelvic cavity. This last week I put on some pain relieving cream to battle a rather significant injury which I'm still dealing with, but within an hour I couldn't stand up straight. Luckily that is leaving my system. I too get the prolapsed hemorrhoids which are awful. What do you do to help the hemorrhoids? Just all removing offending food?
How awesome that would be to be close enough to have your amazing cooking! I do purée my food or eat very soft foods so it's easier to digest. I don't tolerate too many veggies because of the fructans, which has been hard, but managing. I do make the puréed soup with cabbage and celery. I do chicken occasionally but causes my throat and mouth to burn and sensitive to most fish, if not causing pain increases my frequency. Such a balancing act.
Thank you for all the encouragement and to know I am not walking alone with digestive issues. Trying to keep my head up, just struggling emotionally in all aspects of life. Lots of love being sent back to you!!

I am so glad you are with Dr. B. She will help to you to untangle the intricacies of this delicate condition. We are surely in such a vulnerable state. I remember when everything gave me canker sores...many at one time. I never deal with that anymore, even though it plagued me for years and years. Now I have sores in my scalp that come and go. I am waiting for the day when they will be a distant memory too. :) There is a definite correlation to the head sores being present when my intestines are inflamed. So many clues from the body...

I do a sitz bath several times a day when I am dealing with hemmorhoids. I also have to get my feet up, if possible. And I drink hot water. Getting rid of the offending food is crucial for me. And I eat a lot of the soup I mentioned before. I also take 3
T olive oil a day, with the last T before going to bed. I noticed that cabbage is helpful for me in calming inflammation as well.

I pray you are feeling so much better soon dear!

Oh, I know, so blessed to have the help of Dr. M. She is so patient and reassuring that this will get better. I have to believe that, just hard when it doesn't change as quickly as we would like! Thanks for all the suggestions! Hope you are having a great day with few symptoms!

I'm so sorry you have to live in fear of eating - to chose between eating or pain, I can't imagine! :( I do hope and truly believe that it won't always be like that for you - it simply can't. Your body was designed to need food, so when it is completely healthy, it should not react that way. I wish I had better advice or personal experience to share, but I just wanted you not to feel that horrible suffering alone feeling - even if your symptoms are different than mine (and others')!

HUG!!!

I totally feel your sentiments CP and, after so long dealing with this myself, I too feel it is so isolating and awful not to relax once in a while and eat out or share a family meal without major fear. If only I colud subsist on water and broccoli, I would feel fine, not too much water, of course! Anyway, it's so very frustrating and I can't echo the unfairness of it all. I have been all over the map with foods and moving backwards on the lists all the time. I do think it's amazing how certain things bother some and not others. It really takes a lot of diligence and patience, which I am running low on these days. xo
