My 9 yr old fell (to put it lightly) ended up with a factured in the pelvis and a deep wound right above the fracture. Doc wants him on keflex for a week. I told the dr how fearful I am of abx and he assured me that he does not prescribe unless absolutely necessary. I am so upset about this whole day, the innjury and now ABX-

thoughts?

Gosh, that is awful!!! Do they have to do surgery for his pelvis? Is it is puncture, or easy enough to keep clean and watch closely for infection? If you think you can keep clean and maybe ask Dr. M about a safe alternative if looks like infection is starting you will know pretty soon if looking dangerous! Ugh! Life is a blast!! :(

Hi sweetie! Well, i talked to a homeopath that frankie ahas seen and she agrees that it seems serious enough to warrant antibiotics. it is a deep wound! Nasty! He fell off a scooter going super fast and hit some rocks and I guess one of them basically stabbed him. No surgery for the pelvis- thank God- it is not a serious fracture but a painful one! poor guy, it was an awful day. teh whole trauma team was called in because i guess they were concerned about organ damage. These are the nights where I could use a glass of wine. So instead, I will have my Poland spring and be grateful that it wasn't worse! thanks ,christina xoxoxoxo

I'm so sorry for your son. How scary! I had to take abx for a nasty staph infection on my face recently and was terrified. But there was no way around it, Boaz agreed. My infection healed and now we are working on getting back to where I was. The aftermath wasn't as bad as I thought and I know I'm going to be OK and continue to move forward in treatment without too much of a setback. There's an appropriate use of abx and this certainly sounds like one of those instances . Pump him with probiotics and anything to build his immune system. He will be fine and as hard as it is, this is the right thing to do. I'm sorry this happened...I'm glad he's going to be ok. Deep breaths and don't forget to take care of yourself during this , too.

Deir you are always so careful to keep your kids away from antibiotics so that on the rare occasion that they do need them, they will bounce back. Acidophilus to the rescue! I think Dr. McCombs has good recommendations on how to dose kids with probiotics while on antibiotics

If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.

Same here! That is so scary and tough, and I know how hard it is to make these kinds of decisions... but I think you are on the right track for sure - you've got lots of knowledge and support to help get your son right back on track after the antibiotics! :)
