As many of you know, I focus a great deal on the use of bacterial balancing in the body in relation to chronic illness in general adn of course, specifically, IC.

Looking for that something that will take the edge off the symptoms of IC is a normal quest. often people turn to marijuana thinking it is less toxic than alcohol on the bladder. And, most people find it does give them a lot of relief.
I want to give a very big warning to all of you trying to get over your symptoms. Pot will keep you unwell!I have not had one person get well smoking pot over the last decade and a half that I have been treating this condition. It is a very unforgiving substance. In fact, I have had many people be unwell because of excessive marijuana use.

..but please remember, it is true. EVERYONE is different! Comparing how a particular supplement effects you with another person can get very confusing because two people may have identical symptoms but need very different treatment for it. Furthermore, what he or she is being given for that problem will also require many many changes over a period of time. Health is dynamic (changing), and when in a "disease" state, the dynamics are flowing even faster. In order to effectively address any chronic illness, one must go with those changes by following the body responses to them.

Sometimes, I feel that inspiration is so plentiful, I can barely contain it, and I have so many things I want to say and post, while other times, I feel like I am accumulating thoughts and experiences with people and silence is something I need to observe because too much is going on.
It has been an overwhelming couple of months in many ways. And, as always, I try my best to be present, in the moment, listening to all the things I need to listen to, so I can regurgitate the appropriate answer for the person who needs it, and sometimes, for myself as well.

I just received an email from a patient who apparently was very upset after reading another post from someone who said she had been in treatment for many years and is still suffering.
I won't go into any details on any specific person bc of confidentiality, however, I do want to say this:
As with any treatment, there will be some who don't do as well or don't go through it as fluidly as others. If one takes a closer look at the situation, perhaps there are reasons for it, and in some cases, perhaps one cannot find those reasons, although, I am certain they are there.

As time passes with patients who have made it through treatment, it is easy to begin feeling like you can do anything and the symptoms wont come back. It is easy to have that drink of wine each night, to eat that dessert on a regular basis, even to take medications like birth control pills.
This last month I had three patients come back who had been without symptoms for years. Each of their stories are different, but the common theme was...."I thought I could handle anything!" These stories involved birth control pills, sugar and alcohol.

Often patients will suffer from anxiety with IC, which, is understandable because when life presents you with a problem like IC, it is normal to be anxious. However, sometimes anxiety comes up because of substances one has taken to deal with his or her issues during treatment. I have seen several instances of that. And, lastly, often anxiety could be an underlying problem from childhood.

Today I spoke to a patient that I have not spoken to in a very long time and it reminded me of a really important issue.

is a confusing issue....
I realize that many people are concerned with the concept of alkalizing the body. And, indeed often the body is over acidic when in the state of IC. However, using methods to alkalize the body because of test stripping is a dangerous situation to get yourself into and can actually make your symptoms and your IC much worse.
