A Healthy Mouth

I am going to post this based on my thoughts and experience not on any factual
information. However, I do want to share my thoughts because I think they are interesting.

Last week someone asked me what I thought about the relationship between getting
in better balance and the health of the teeth and gums. And, if I thought that intervention
was a good idea. I shared some of the things with her that I am about to say here.

But, I would love to do a study on this because it is something that I have though a lot
about over the years and am just not sure of.

How much does diet and and supplementation influence the mouth?

Over the last week when I have been contemplating this, I cam up with several
examples:

The first is that during treatment, it is not unusual for people to go into "i have to get
a root canal" crisis mode.

These procedures can be avoided often through the use of herbs. I have treated many of these cases and enabled people to avoid root canals in 9 out of 10 cases. And, funny, these
things always come up just at a point where someone is at a turning point in their
treatment, where strong detoxing is occurring.

In other cases, people can go into crisis mode with their mode experiencing symptoms such as hypersensitivity in the gums, teeth or both. In these cases, again, herbs should be used to divert these symptoms. And, in most cases, this solves the problem of these symptoms.

In Chinese medicine the upper teeth and gums relate to the large intestine and the lower to the stomach. In alternative dentistry, dentists link a connectivity between each tooth and the
organ it relates to.

I have noted some interesting cases over the years where patients have opted to not
undergo procedures such as cutting the gums to do deep pocket cleaning. In these
cases, patients have been told that they will experience tremendous bone loss
if this procedure isn't done, and years later after more internal cultivation,
the gums and teeth did not exhibit any signs that would warrant such intervention,
let alone did it deteriorate further.

In another case, I had a patient who had one tooth that was black around the gum and tooth.
She is a dental chicken and chose to not seek diagnosis or treatment. After a year
of working on her health with diet and supplements the tooth is 98% clear and continuing
to improve.

Another situation I have noted over the years is that tartar build-up is very common
in those having chronic conditions. And, in a high number of patients having this condition if not all, that over growth ceases to occur as the patient becomes in better balance.

So, to answer the person who asked this question last week, this is the longer answer to your question. Again, this is not based in fact, it is simply what I have seen clinically. One
would need to study this over time to come up with solid answers. But, my feeling
is that the answer to your question is that the internal environment influences the health
of the gums and teeth in a much more significant way than perhaps even alternative
dentistry may consider-or not. But, I would think much more than the common person or traditional dentistry would think.

It is fascinating how everything is connected. Even your teeth!

I had 7 cavities last year and 5 this year after treatment started.  I have never had one before all this.  I just got mine filled and one of them that never hurt before now kills me!  I am not sure if its from die off or not, going back to dentist this week.  I def. see a correlation between my overall health and my teeth!

I completely agree with this too.  I had some issues with teeth and gums earlier in my life but since getting IC have been told my gums are great and I have little tartar which I find a bit odd. I have never been to a holistic dentist.  I was considering having my mercury fillings replaced with the white stuff so as to rid my body of the toxin, but Matia didn't think it was absolutely necessary so I haven't done it as I'm afraid it might compromise my treatment with her or send me into a flare. It's amazing how the teeth, gums (tongue) and eyes are all related to our internal health and good indicators of imbalance.

It makes sense to me that people who have IC have problems with their teeth and gums... The mouth is the first place where digestion takes place.  Many of the same bacteria found in the intestine are also found in the mouth.  Also, we forget that our immune system works all over our body to kill off invaders...This includes the mouth.  I heard that with people with weakened immune systems, they are prone to cavities because their immune sytem does not properly fight bacteria, etc in the mouth.

Thank you so much for sharing Matia! I would also like to know what your opinion is regarding silver/amalgam/mercury fillings. There is so much debate over this. My specific question is do you recomend removal?

I'm not sure if this is going to double post. There was a gliche. So here it goes again.... Thank you so much Matia for sharing this with us! I would also like to know what your opinion is regarding silver/amalgum/merury fillings. Specifically, would like to know if you recommend removal?ThanksCecilia

So basically, I agree with the fact that amalgms are not good for your body, of course, but, I don't recommend getting them removed early in treatment bc it can be very hard on the body as well as the pain levels to do so. If you want to do that I would save it for later when you are stronger.I also do not think that having them removed will facilitate you getting healthier faster. I have not seen that happen with numerous people having done that.

Yes..I think there is definitely somethng to this. I am currently going through the root canal threat w/success w/herbs and sensitivity and localizing of dental problems. This does seem to be connected to a rough die-off time and perhaps timing in the healing cycle . Oddly my teeth have never felt stronger while at same time are acting up and more decay is visible?. I feel it is zeroing in on the gums and teeth much like an infection localizes as it heals...a leap of faith and trust in Matia is giving me hope...am sure there's a lo more to know about this connection,,

I wanted to throw my two cents in here as well because I strongly believe the health of your teeth comes from within. I used to have very dark stains in the deep grooves of my molars. Since starting treatment, those stains are completely gone. My molars are as white as you can imagine. I also do not have any tartar in my teeth at all. I used to get terrible tartar buildup between my front teeth. There is nothing there now. To me, it is all an indication that I am getting heathier, as well as anecdotal evidence that cutting sugar out of your diet does wonders for your teeth.
Another thing I always thought about as further proof is the teeth of animals. I always noticed how white the teeth of my cats, dogs, horses, and rabbit are, and they/I don't brush their teeth. They also don't consume refined sugar. Consider also indigenous tribes untouched by modern living. They have perfect teeth. Only after being introduced to a "western" diet and sugar do they have dental issues.

I had to go  back to dentist last night because one of my teeth that she filled a filling in for a cavity is killing me now, it did not even hurt before. She told me I needed a root canal or else I would get an absess.  So, how do you treat a tooth that already has a filling over it?

I strongly recommend you email Matia right away..I suspect she will put you on herbs to try to prevent further problems and  a root canal.... my trouble tooth had a filling as well....I felt the herbs working on the tooth immediately....

Hi Matia,
i have my first meeting with you in september ...,i,m 3 months into diet 1 , fantastic, amazing difference already, but i have started having teeth sensitivity too, i had a mercury filling removed 2 weeks ago ,...but the problems is still there, the dentist now says i need root canal treatment but i have delayed it.. i  can;t understand why if there is no infection , the nerve is inflammed,,and i am hoping it will settle. I,ve never had problems with my teeth, other than cleaning ,i,ve been to the dentist maybe twice in 20 yrs... i feel literally as if my body is trying to reject the mercury filliings. My partner says its part of the body/nadi cleansing too. He's had problems with his since he started his intense yoga practices.
