This Kind Of Treatment...

...requires a lot of comprehensive communication and hard work as well as time to work. Often times, one may not have a breakthrough for quite some time in severe cases.

Working through diet, supplements, lifestyle changes, etc... and trying to bring the body from severe imbalance to balance again is not an easy or simple task.

Many times, patients drop off very early in treatment because they don't understand how this type of treatment works. So, I wanted to post a reminder.

Going through many phases of die-off is sometimes necessary, and at the least, time is necessary to make the kinds of changes in the body necessary to bring the body back into balance.

It is difficult to understand this kind of process. I remember when I was in the early stages of my education, I struggled to understand so many aspects of chronic illness. Having been personally plagued by chronic illness myself earlier in my life, and having gone through these kinds of struggles, coupled with having reached the level of education and clinical experience that I have, I can tell you, it is a long learning process to truly understand such things. However, when one goes through his or her own journey, one gets to know and understand so much about their own individual body. The relationship that one develops with one's self in this process increases awareness and the ability to take care of one's body in a very different way than before.

So, when you are embarking upon this kind of path, just remember, there are no quick solutions to chronic problems. If you had 200 pounds to lose, you couldn't possibly do that in 6 months. It would take time to lose slowly and time to make positive changes in diet that are life long.

Working with IC is much the same kind of process-slow and steady and working towards sustainable changes.

Matia,  I enjoyed reading this blog.  Your encouraging spirit helps me to keep a positive attitude.  I find great comfort in knowing that you have traveled this path to wellness alongside so many people.  We are very fortunate to have found someone with such a vast amount of knowledge and experience in treating Interstitial Cystitus.

Matia, what a good post.  I'll have to read it when I feel so icky and grouchy!

What was esp helpful was hearing that even you struggled to understand how this process can be so long and convoluted.  It is good to be reminded again and again, I for one need it, how regaining imbalance can take a very long time.  The losing 200 pounds metaphor truly hit home, well-illustrating the impossibility of quick fixes along with how lifelong maintenance is necessary. -- Thank you!
