I know for some of us just daily tasks are a chore. I am wondering if any of you have a pedometer and if you know how many steps your taking in a day? I know I don't move much and I would like to have a goal set in mind. I am not sure whats realistic. I don't move enough but it's like I will walk for 10 min and need to lay down. I do the dishes and I am cashed out. I have NO stamina. I am depressed about it I need to get out and I don't know how i can when i can hardly walk for long. SO I want to hear from you active or not. Do you know how much you move. How far you walk how many steps you take? IS anyone willing to chart there steps for me? I need to compare me to a normal active person. thanks
Hey Nicole,I have a pedometer
Hey Nicole,I have a pedometer that someone gave me, I haven't used it in a while. I'll put it on for a couple of days and let you know what I come up with. BTW - I've read that the lymph system needs movement/exercise in order to keep its circulation moving, which helps to move the toxins out of your body. The lymph system doesn't have a pump that keeps things moving, it is our movement that keeps things flowing. I hear you on getting tired so easily, just start out slow and gradually increase as you feel more stamina. Spacing it out into small chunks during the day is a good way to do it. Some days I still have to force myself to go exercise, but I always feel better afterward. Carol
Steps
We have stairs, so I am up and down stairs several times per day and also some days get on the treadmill. In summer I try to go for short walks outside. I never put on the pedometer, but my husband has one.
I get
on my treadmill for 45 min 6 days a week or at least 30 when I can't do 45. In the summer I take walks outside (we live right buy a lake with a walking trail, and they have a bathroom in the summer). I think it is easier for me to exercise now, as I have always exercised since I was young, and used to work with and train horses. I can't do that anymore : ( But somedays it takes all I have to just get on that treadmill. I do it the first thing in the morning and I always have my i-pod to listen to. Music really helps.I know that exercising is one thing that has really helped me. When I don't do it I have so many more problems, even when it is hard when you have to get off every ten min to go pee. But that has changed since I have found Matia, and now I can usually go 30 or the whole 45 without having to go. I know sometimes people do not like the treadmill, it is not my first choice either, but I can' really do anything else right now, and my daughter can play while I watch her. It was one of the best purchases I have ever made. I use the incline a lot, and so it really helps tone your legs. But when I work up a sweat, sometimes the first 15-20 min are like ah this is so hard and I just want to stop, but then after you start sweating, and breathing deep through your nose, it just feels so good. I feel like I am sweating out toxins, and it gets everything moving. It helps a lot with having regular bm.I think it is a very good idea to start slow, and you can do little burst of it too. Like 3 ten minute walks. I don't have a pedometer, but have used them in the past. Try and not be discouraged if you feel like crap in the beginning. I think everyone does. But if you make it a habit, then you will not feel right if you haven't done it, and you will come to love it. You can do it. Even if you work yourself up to 20 min a day at first then go up to 30 as your body gets used to it.
Every step i take feels like
Every step i take feels like glass in my legs so it's really hard for me. I don't move around much when I am home but I know I need to work on this. My fibro kills me. For me yoga is better then walking but for some strange reason every single time I do it I get insomina no matter how or what poses I do. I even start first thing after breakfist. I wanted to see what a general day of someone who does things how manny steps they take not just the work out part but how active are you all. I know I am not the only one with the bad pain it is esp bad in my legs. this glass feeling gets worse with every step i take and sometimes goes all the way up into my but and then on top of that I have back pain every day I look like I am prego. Not just because the bloating but I am holding my back I litteraly walk like a prego person.
Nicole
I think its wonderful that you are walking! I can relate to your fibro pain and understand wanting to be more active and move more. It's sooo hard with the low energy and pains. When I'm in less pain I try to walk or stretch but when things get worse it feels impossible. I'm looking forward to trying yoga. ~shar
Nicole...
I am sorry : ( That sounds really hard, and painful. Yes I can see how walking would hurt. As far as how much I move without working out, I have a 15 month old... so it kind of forces me to be moving all the time. Somedays are so hard, its like " If I have to pick up my 22 lb child one more time, and carry her up the stairs, I'm going to cry!?." But I have never dealt with fibro. It sounds very very hard. I have had it where my back on my left side, lower back, hurts so bad that I feel like screaming every time I bend over. That has come and gone twice since I started with Matia.Sorry I can't be of more help.... i really hope you can find something that works for you soon : )
exercise
I try to exercise every morning on the treadmill -- interval training so half the time going fast/high incline, half normal. I do yoga once/week. I do weights 1-2x/wk... slowly increasing as it bothers my bladder less. Sundays I take off or go on a hike w/ my dog. I also have a ton of stairs in our condo so I hope going up/down all day helps burn some more calories!
Even if I don't feel great I try to push myself to exercise (though when I was really suffering at the beginning any exercise was out of the question). Even when I'm sick I do it and find sweating it out really helps (I used to have a friend who sweared by this). But I don't have fibro and I've progressed a lot in treatment (although sometimes it's so up and down or goes backwards I can't tell anymore!) Hope this helps.
THanks for all your feedback
THanks for all your feedback and those of you willing to track your steps this will be a BIG help for me. I need something to compare my regular activity to and work twards. It will help me set goals for myself. I don't have stairs except a few steps going out my porch and my front door. I have one step to my bedroom so not a lot of steps to force me to do much. I have been trying to force myself to walk a little longer each time and yes I do break it up. I just need some goals to set. Matia told me I have blood stagnation and I really want to work on this. My limbs fall asleep really easily. I have a bruse on my shin a yr old. I know if I get my circulation going my constipation will improve in turn improving my fibro so I need to try to push as much as I can. I am so over this IC crap I have to start being active in my healing. Thanks everyone for all your help I really am greatfull.
pedometer
So i've worn my pedometer for about a week and my steps vary wildly between days. Some days are 3,000, a couple were 7,000 and most were around 4-5,000. The 3,000 days were pretty low activity days for me, mostly sitting on my behind at work. I hope this helps! Fibro pain is so awful, I had it in my forearms when I first started treatment. I hope that it starts to decrease for you soon. Carol
thanks so much Carol it's
thanks so much Carol it's nice to have a range. I know movement is important I really want to try my best to work on this . thanks so much.

I wear a pedometer every once
I wear a pedometer every once in a while. It seems as if on the days when I do not do much, I'm around 4000-5000 steps. On days when I'm active and workout I'm around 8-9000. The most average number is around 5000 I would say.
