My two year old has the stomach flu (or I assume it is that?) She acts like she feels ok, but then all of a sudden she is throwing up everywhere.
I tried to give her some gold/oregano oil but she didn't hold that down. She hasn't eaten anything, and she has just drank water so far. I have curing pills... I am not sure what to do? Anyone with kids have any advice?
She has never had the stomach flu and I am at a loss on what the best way to handle it is.
Thanks
stomach bugs
Over the years I have seen my childrens friends have stomach bugs frequently. My kids (9 & 5) just got their first stomach bug last month. Sister gave it to brother. Brother gave it to me. I gave it to dad. We are all on probiotics and as far as this kind of thing goes, we got off easy. We mainly felt nauseas. Not much throwing up or the runs. I know the probiotics helped keep the symptoms done. They are a good preventative. After you get the bug you don't feel like eating anything, esp. children. The main thing is to keep them hydrated. Which it sounds like you are doing. If they want to eat I would give them yogurt. Small amounts because it make come right back up. I wouldn't worry if they don't want anything to eat for a day or two as long as they are drinking and peeing. These bugs ususally pass quickly. Thankfully. If you are still having symptoms after 48 hours I would see the doctor. Good luck, Tammy
Thank you
She drinks raw milk, and eats yogurt a lot. She hardly ever gets sick. I will try a little yogurt if she acts like she is hungry. This is so hard to take care of her, when I feel so crappy myself. I don't have it yet, but I am terrified of getting it. i get the stomach flu so bad when I do, it takes me out for a week usually. I emailed Matia on what I should do if I do get it, I hope that is OK.
Thanks again for your advice, it helps.
lots of great flora
I should have know...we IC'ers know about probiotics. The main thing is keeping it contained. Not an easy thing to do. I had a bucket and bath towel close by to catch the vomit and we all washed our hands a lot. Good luck.
Thank you
Thank you Tammy :) I can't count how many loads of laundry I have done already. I've already gone through all my towels! Thanks for your encouragement.
Do you think just mashed potato is a good thing to offer her if she was hungry? She kept asking for milk, so I gave her some raw milk. It stayed in only a half hour...
surprised
I'm surprised she's hungry. The body wants to purge but if she asks..I'd keep it small and soft (milk, mashed pots, yogurt would all be good), that way if it comes up it won't choke her. Bless your heart...this is no fun:(
She
is still throwing up : ( She can't keep anything down. I am thinking I need to let her stomach rest from even a little bit of water for a couple hours after she throws up? I do not want her to get dehydrated, so that is why I am offering her water about 10 minutes after she throws up, and she is drinking some?
I am at a loss to what is best. I feel so bad for her. That is how I get it, I can not keep water, even a tiny bit down for days! I pray she doesn't get it like me (i'll take her to the hospital, tho I hate to do that). Do you ever give your kids a homemade "tea" with lemon water and honey?? I don't think sugar is the best thing, but I read a bunch of people saying that helped their kids?
it's hard
It's hard to see your little one sick. If she is peeing and/or has tears then she is not dehydrated. How is she acting? If she is dehydrated she will look tired and pale.
I gave my kids plain water
but I was just reading on Google and it said to give watered down juice- so tea should be fine. It also said that the vomiting usually lasts 24 hours. Is she able to sleep at all?
How is she doing today?
I hope things have settled down and started to pass.
