...about the thyroid. Here is my thinking, and I am speaking in regards to the community of people that have IC-not other people in general, as my experience with thyroid issues is limited to chorinic illness.

But--my theory is like the picture above. If everything is too full and stuck and you put something behind it to push it faster--what do you think will happen? Probably a bunch of cars will run into one another and there will be alot of accidents and probably even a fire right?

I don't think it is different in chronic illness and thyroid deficiency. I think someone goes in feeling awful to the doc and he/she prescribes thyroid meds because they are cold and dry skinned and the thyroid levels are not functioning optimally-weather it is techincally determined with blood work or just determined by observation. So what ends up happening is the thyroid cannot push because the body is congested most especially the lymph- and you give the body this medicine to make it go. Well all that happens is the jam is worse and now it is more blocked. Blocked will ultimately lead to more heat and stagnancy-phlegm and blood stagnation which can be very serious-fibroids, tumors, or just bad inflammation and swelling and pain.

I see many people who have this going on when they come in. I never advise anyone to stop their prescriotion medication. However, when I explain this-I have them discuss it with their prescribing MD and consider weaning off their thyroid med as they go through this treatment with the goal of increase the effectiveness of the thyroid gland-which almost always happens.

There are situations in which I have not recommended this change so it is not 100% accross the board. Each situation is unique. But, this is the broad answer.

This is a great article...coming from a pharmacist's perspective.  I would also like to add that all the hormones are connected.  When one goes up, others go down.  They all work together and it is the balance that is so important.  Cholesterol is the root base for most hormones and that is why healthy fats are so important. Thanks Matia for thinking this through and explaining it in a way that is easy to understand.
