Agave

One day when I am not here anymore people might remember me saying "for every research point there is another one that discounts it".

I kind of hope I leave behind non work related things and that point certainly isnt a big one. But, I do say it more often than not.

For all of those anti-Agave articles about how bad it is for your blood sugar, here is one for the team: http://www.foxnews.com/health/2014/03/17/sugars-found-in-tequila-may-pro...

I truly believe agave to be a safe alternative for sweetening, but because of my huge reactions to fructose, I know I shouldn't have this fear of fructose the rest of my life, but at the current moment I can't even fathum I will ever be able to enjoy sweetened treats. Not that it makes me that upset, as I wasn't a huge sweet lover before, but a treat here and there would be nice in the future. I just wonder if there are safe low fructose sweeteners that won't raise blood sugars so drastically and contribute to long term issues with SIBO/gut imbalances? I have read about yacon syrup which is supposed to be good at feeding the good bacteria and low in fructose and very low on glycemic index. Any knowledge of this syrup? Thanks!

As the saying goes 'For every PhD there is an equal and opposite PhD'. It's hard for the layperson to decide which research study to trust. It's always pertinent to find out who funds the research in question. This particular study, it seems, was 'supported' by 'Mondelez International' (Kraft foods of Mexico) and 'Agavaceae Produce'. Important also to note that this was a study on mice and not humans.
