Cholesterol

In my dissertation there is a theory of "compensation" that I discuss where the body produces more fluids (in many forms) to protect the body from the damages that have occurred over time. Cholesterol is one example of such fluids and is a reason why many people with chronic problems have high cholesterol. And, I argue that often it is this dynamic that elevates cholesterol rather than a bad diet. I just found this page, which, discusses this concept from a different point of view-I stumbled upon it this morning. It shows a few books with authors who appear to have like-minded opinions. I am betting these are some very good reads! http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/cholesterol.htm#a

Thanks Matia!  You know how I love stuff like this.
I just can't grasp why my husband's acupuncturist wants to put him on Red Rice Yeast long term.  It's confusing when his doc says "take this" and I tell him "Don't take that."  He's conflicted for obvious reasons!
I will be happy to give his doc yet another article to read showing an alternate view.  I can't help but wonder why he, an alternative doctor, doesn't know this stuff himself?
Warmly,
Samantha

There is so much to know really. And, the whole theory of compensation isnt something that I learned myself until I was well into my Ph.D. program. The red rice yeast IS the alternative world thinking on this, so he is really right on the money in terms of what he gave your husband. But, thats the thing, doctors of all sorts practice differently in all walks of medicine-Western-Chinese-standard Alternative-all of them. the red rice yeast is very effective in getting the cholesterol down, I just never use that on my genre of patients bc I believe that it will imbalance them. And in the end, it is so true that on all topics in medicine, and this one is not different, that there are opposing opinions regarding a subject.
