The Mind Body Connection

Great article on the mind body connection and the power of belief of your own body. http://www.environmentalgraffiti.com/news-your-mind-controls-how-your-bo...

Some may take the position that I am suggesting IC is in your mind, and that is not at all what I am suggesting. I believe that there are very concrete physical reasons for this condition occuring, but, I do believe that the mind has the power to influence your physiology and therefor influence the state of your health.

I am currently reading a fascinating book called :The Biology of Belief, which will probably take me forever to get through, but so far, it is an amazing book and if I had one straight afternoon I could soak it all up it is so fascinating.

I have always been of the opinion that what comes out of our thoughts and emanates from our actions and our words influences everything that happens to us in terms of physiology reactions as well as universal ones. This article I posted above (sent by a patient) is an example of the mind body influence. There are so many wonderful examples.
I think it is important to remember not only the power of our bodies, but the power of our minds. I do believe it is a two way street, but, both are equally powerful and important.

I agree, when I can get my mind to settle down I can definetly handle pain and life's stressors so much easier. I often have to go with the sayings "mind over matter" and "fake it till you make it." Some days it takes all I can give to plaster a smile on my face knowing that not only do I have to handle my own issues, but everyone one of my patient's unique issues. But once I set my mind to the task at hand my body follows suit (or vice versa) and I can usually tackle my day. Plus work keeps my mind occupied, also keeping me sane.

Hi Dr. M
For me, it seems as though my body has been more detrimental to my psyche than the other way around.  I have spent years in therapy, have taken plenty of pills to "correct" my mental facalties, and found cognitive behavioral therapy a mind boggling, anxiety driven, dismal failure. (Please believe me, it wasn't for the lack of trying)  Now, a little over a year into treatment with you,  I am remarkably better.  The thing is, I got a lot worse before getting better.  This has been the fight of my life.  However, after burying my father two weeks ago - who at 85 had progressed to seeing people cloak themselves, sneak into his room, poke him with knitting needles, and spray him with slime,  I knew that this was a fight that I couldn't afford to ignore.  Coming to your for what were failry mild ic symptoms, compared to many others, has quite possibly saved me from suffering in the same manner as my Dad - one can only hope.
So, I guess what I'm trying to say, is that I strongly believe that being a complete nut job can come from some sort of physical imbalance.  If you find yourself killing yourself with therapy, feeling like you're a complete failure because it just isn't working, hang in there.  This could be a large part of the answer that you've been looking for.
Take Care, and thank you so much

That was incredibly insightful. Thank you so much for sharing all of that with everyone. It is defintiely a two way street mind body/ body mind. There is no question! I am glad you are finding your way and that this has helped you so very much.:)
