Potatoes

It is perplexing to me that in a day and age where we have had to worry about the carcinogenic effects of things like Fukushima, arsenic and other toxins that have leached into our food supply from conventional farming, chlorine and flouride in our water supply, and a sadly unlimited number of other things in our moder world, that we need to focus on genetically modifying out a single ingredient in potatoes because the current thought is THAT is the major contributing factor to higher rates of cancer? Really? Our ancestors were probably eating a much higher percentage of potatoes than we ever could and it is only in past decades that cancer rates have risen so extensively.

Maybe the inventors of this technology actually think that this will have some kind of health contributing effect on the planet but somehow I think that this has more to do with financial gain than something more altruistic.

In my opinion, we should leave our foods as they were originally designed by nature and not subject ourselves to the potentially problematic effects of having genetically modified them.

As consumers, it is important for each of us to become aware of all of these things that are being done so that we may make a choice to eat food that is in sync with nature and our bodies.

Here is what is coming our way, so look out: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/08/business/genetically-modified-potato-f...

Why can't the education be more on the healthy choices of avoiding or limiting the consumption of fried potatoes? They don't even truly know to what impact changing the DNA or acrylamide has on humans, but yet it's ok to put it out in the market and a wait and see what health issues develop! These companies don't have the consumers health in mind, it's all about making the big bucks and getting their foot in the door as fast as they can with fast food chains where they can get as many consumers as possible to buy into this junk! Very disturbing, but thanks for sharing! Kind of glad I'm not tolerating potatoes and rice at the moment. What will be next?

So rice has arsenic. Potatoes are gmo. Spelt is almost as bad as wheat. What can I eat anymore? I am suddenly really freaking hungry. What is safe?

That is actually really funny and not funny at all at the same time!

I think being aware of where these things come from is important. SO, not ALL potatoes will be GML and not all rice is as bad as the next-although that may be less clear. Spelt is typically toelrated in time. I would try root veggies like yams and sweet potatoes, acorn sqaush and other heavier sqaushes. Also beans of all kinds, quinoa is a big one teff, amaranth and millet and if your bladder is ready, oats. We get caught up in the everyday things people eat, I also am guilty of that. But, if we get creative, we can actually explore alot of other options.

This article is so frustrating. If the potato lets off a dangerous chemical when you fry it then don't fry it. DUH? We've been baking and boiling them for centuries and doing ok with that. And I doubt that we'd all die without french fries. As of the bruising, really potato people? I have bought them for years and you just cut out the bruised part which is very small. What bothers me most is engineering nature. God made these things and he doesn't make mistakes. He really doesn't. The arrogance and just blatant stupidity to think you can change nature to suit your tastes and likes and dislikes rather than learning to harmonize with it is so sad. Look at climate change and disease, both of these illustrate being out of harmony with natures laws. You want to use carbon and coal and you pollute to the extent that climate is heavily effected. You want junk food, sugar and chemical sodas and you get diseases unheard of a 100 years aog.  Get back in harmony and these things go away. GMO on anything for any reason is pushing our luck in how much nature will take. It's scary stuff.
