On Tap

I understandably receive an ongoing number of questions regarding my recommendation to drink bottled spring water. This typically is in regards to the cost. And, i am not a water expert, only an expert on IC.

The difference between Tap or filtered tap in outrageously obvious clinically. There are so many issues that revolve around water and many still far beyond my own understanding. Much more research needs to be conducted in this area.

This article interestingly illustrates even more issues than the ones i bring up. Please read it!

I can only say from anecdotal experience how important it is to drink bottled water to keep pain levels down.  My family goes to Yosemite National Park every year for a camping trip.  The drinking water there tastes so good.  It comes from a very pure source (Hetch Hechy) anyhow... Whenever I would go there... my IC would flare sooo badly... I was so bummed out... I couldn't figure it out.  How could the place I love so much be bad for my bladder?  Finally, I noticed my son was flaring too (he has IC) and then I made the water connection.  As soon as I switched to bottled water, I felt sooo much better while I was there.  The mineral content in the tap is sooo high that it is like a frickin bomb went off in my bladder.  I made the connection because before I started with Matia I tried to heal myself with vitamins and such because I thought I was unhealthy.  I will never forget the first time I took a jumbo multivitamin right after I had been diagnosed with IC.  It was like a BOMB went off in my bladder.  Vitamins are good, but if your intestines cannot absorb properly, then the excess goes to the bladder which is already raw.  Same goes for an abundance of minerals that are not absorbed by an unhealthy gut.  The issue I am sure gets compounded with tap water because not only are the mineral contents so different from one source to another, but you don't know what else is in there...

Do you recommend any type of in home filter systems for us to install?  Or can if only be bottled spring?  Also what about well water? We have been taking jugs and filling up at my Mother in Laws house who lives off well water.  She just bought a test kit for it, but has not used it yet.I guess I am looking for an alternative to LUGGING Huge amounts of water in and out of the store into my home every week.

you might notice an improvement in  your pain levels if you switch to exclusively drinking  spring water and try to stick to the same brand. filtered water or sistilled water are too acidic in ph level and high content mineral water can also cause pain by being too alkaline. BE SURE to chekc and make sure the "spring water"is legit as some say brands say they are spring water but its really filtered water .  I put a shower filter on my shower- it seems to mostly filter out the chlorine and a few other chemicals- cost me about 40 bucks and an additional 24.00 every six months or so for the refill  but it helps in reducing dry skin. I think Matia recommends Mountain Valley Spring water to those that have distribution that way they deleiver it to you and it comes in glass containers which makes the water taste better! I totally know what you mean I'm sick of lugging  gallons of water home from the store! I need a delivery situation!Mary

I have been drinking Whole Foods spring water.  I tested the PH with the strips and it is more alkanine then FIGI water.  My family drinks the well water from my Mother in laws, but I do drink it sometimes when I am out of the bottled kind.  I will check out and see if its cheaper to have it delivered, it would be so great not to lug it around.
