True Story About Energy

When I first went to school, one of my first classes was Qi Gong, an ancient Chinese energy class. My teacher was this very big caucasion man-compared to all of my Asian teachers, he didn't posses the allure of the Chinese medical arts for me. He told us in our first class that our test at the end of the semester would be sitting in a quiet room with him, our hands parallell and each student would have to tell him if he was pulling their energy or pushing it. I remember turning to my now husband and telling him, "oh God, I am failing for sure!".

Well, the semester went by, and I became increasingly clear that you definitely cannot read a book by it's cover. When it came time that I found myself sitting in a dark quiet room siiting accross from my teacher hands parallell, I was very clear--"pushing, I said". And, I passed the class. It was stunning to me how I could feel his energy as if he had taken his whole 250 lb. body and slung it against my hand.

Energy can be very powerful--all forms of it. So, this goes for thinking, acupuncture, homeopathy, herbal medicine, etc....

The reason I bring this up is because a patient asked me about mediation. She felt worse after it and we were not sure if it could be that. And, honestly, I am not sure, there are, like many times, a few too many factors involved. But, I will figure it out. However, when faced with that question, I did say, "yes!" While meditation is outstanding, it produces a lot of energy in your body, especially if you are focusing on one area of your body. So, yes, it could make you feel worse.

So, if you meditate, start with small amounts of time, don't overdo it. Just because it is a small time, it wont be less effective. Its like exercising, you need to get stronger before you can do as much as you can later in the game. Also, don't focus on your bladders. Dont draw all of your energy there. Focus on clearing your mind first. And, then as you get stronger, focus on filling it with happiness and love.

Hope this helps a little.

WOW! I was just thinking about this because I had started doing a guided healing meditation CD that some ICAMA patients recommended. The first week i did it almost every day and it was great. The second week, I felt weird and drained afterwards and even started feeling a little anxious during it. I took a few days off and went back to it with the same negative response. SO interesting!

Like Dier....
I have stopped and started and tried different guided meditation tapes, all to do with meditation for pain but have experienced something similar.  They were all for 45 mins at a time.  I thought I must be doing it incorrectly but this has been really helpful.
I was going to start again this weekend and wanted to make a concerted effort to keep up with it, so this is a good suggestion, I will try just a small amount of time each day and build up.
Thank you for th post it has come at the right time.

LOL, that's a funny story, and very helpful for me. I have been thinking about starting to do meditation. So if I do, I will start out with just a little.
