Someone just emailed me this morning about this post and specifically asked about avoiding meat and I answered without looking at the article first. Now that I have looked at it more closely, I realize he is recommending against non grass fed meat-not meat in general. I think this is good advice. But, we do the best we can do within our budget-all of us, and eating meat, in my opinion, is very important. Eating organic is very important. I think each food he discusses here is really good information and doing the best you can within your budget to adhere to this advice is a good idea.
We live in a world of chemical-many of them are healthy and many are not. The problem is we think that if we buy it at the store, especially the health food store, it is safe. True? Not true! Even the most natural of products may not be appropriate for people with chronic illness-especially IC. The reason for this is many natural products use things like soy, coconut, and vitamin e to name a few and the most obvious, and those often will cause a lot of pain, especially if they are disproportionate to the rest of the ingredients.

I wanted to post an apology. I am sorry if I offended anyone regarding my orthorexia post. I meant this post in the spirit of how I wrote it regarding the issues I outlined. I did not mean to imply that people cannot have eating issues that include abnormal eating patterns who have histories of other eating disorders and for whom have lives that are critically impacted by their eating practices.
I just was given this article by a patient and I just couldn't believe my eyes reading it. It seems that it is so difficult for people to empathize with those who have chosen to go down a path of healthy eating that a term has been coined for those eating really well-"orthorexia" and this term is compared to eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia.
This article by Dr. Mercola is incredibly insightful. He speaks about the politics of mental health-specifically depression and the use of medication to deal with it. I could not agree more on this topic. He recommends looking at diet and offers a few other suggestions.
