In the "old days" we had to keep our families safe by guarding our property and protecting against invasion by intruders--O.K. maybe not completely unheard of in today's day in age either, BUT- the intruders comes in invisible ways these days--ways that did not exist before! So, the only way we can truly protect our families is by reading and staying as informed as possible. Read this: http://www.ewg.org/reports/triclosan

Chlorine in drinking water is one problematic area of concern for me when it comes to IC. But, dipping in a pool with chlorine----one should really try to avoid that. In today's world there are many options to the standard chrlorinated pool. Research correlates an increase in bladder and colon cancer with even moderate levels of chlorine exposure. The following article is on this subject because chlorine level in this particular pool were too high. But, imagine the extreme of what happened in this article and then imagine the same chemical toned down to an "acceptable" amount.

Reflecting upon the events of this week, I think the message I want to go into the weekend with is this: Chronic disease and the connectivity between issues.

As you all know and as we have discussed on this site, depression and anxiety are two huge factors with IC and other chronic illness. The process of rebalancing your internal health can definitely impact your mind in a positive way. I use various supplements to do this, one of which is omega fatty acids where appropriate> Here is a great article on a similar aspect of the same problem:

As any of you who have read my dissertation know, there is a plethora of research regarding the benefits of probiotics. It is incredible to me that our legal system allows certain law suits to even come to fruition, or that anyone woul spend time trying to duscount such a thing. Spending money to promote healthy food should be applauded not litigated. This article exemplifies a huge point that I make in my dissertation regarding the health management issues we have in our society today--good advice on health vs. the risk of a law suit based on that advice.

To preserve health we need to be vigilent about what we put in our bodies. Know what you are eating!
Just because it is on the market does not mean it is safe. How many of you are sick because of the various foods and over the counter medicines you have consumed? Getting better means being smarter--to not make the same mistakes in the future. Here is some great reading:

Hello Everyone,
It has been a great week. As I said in an earlier post, I continue to learn from all of you and from watching this process as time continues. This week I learned a lesson that I seem to learn repeatedly, and am myself stunned at how this happens too often.
Please remember to tell me about anything you are doing or taking. When I ask at the end of our conversation for you to confirm all that you are taking, please include everything you are taking. All prescription medications, all OTC medications--everything, not just what I have given you to take.

Anxiety is probably the #2 issue that I deal with in treating this condition of IC. Second, to the bladder itself. If many of you have read my dissertation then you can certainly understand many of the reasons why this happens. In addition, it happens because there is a common message of no hope! To make matters worse, what others may express as their experience may bring anxiety to someone else unintentionally. I am posting today to first say, that I cannot discuss any of you with others of you, no way, never!

Women are often embarrased to speak about their sexuality. More often than not, they have reall problems with sex and pretend that they do not. I cannot tell you the number of women that see me and tell me how they "fake" it with their significant others. While others may even worse, pretend to not have pain!!! This is especially common with women (and men) who have IC or other related chronic inflammatory conditions.

Preventing and treating colds and flus is common place in my profession. We do not advise flu shots. Many patients insist that they must get one each year. There are manyr easons why we might suggest against, here is one:
