Some of you have posted recently that probiotics are making you crazy. Actually, here is an article that promotes the use of probiotics for people that have been diagnosed with emotional/mind disorders. In my experience, people do often go through all kinds of emotional swings at the beginning of probiotic therapy. This is super typical. But, on the flip side, after having gone through treatment, they become emotionally well balanced. It is a super beautiful thing to watch someone go through. This aticle is filled with a lot of really great information.

Boaz Brizman, L.Ac. of Bomamed will be conducting a four session class in Chinese Medicine that is geared towards parents. The main focus of the class will be understanding basic Chinese Medicine principals and basic influences of diet and emotions on health and disease, and then how to apply these principles in identifying your child's ailments, such as colds, flus, congestion, cough, and other common childhood ailments. This class will help parents know what to do for simple problems and when to recognize the need for professional assistance.

MAny of you may know through being treated with me that people having chronic disease often have elevated, sometimes severely cholesterol levels. I have observed that in most cases the cholesterol normalizes without any extra intervention at all and even more interesting, during a diet that is rich in animal proteins. However, in some cases more is needed, and one common remedy used for this purpose is fish oil.

Thank you to those of you who said such sweet things about my blogging. I REALLY appreciate your sentiments. I LOVE that someone, even one person is heartened by what I have to say. Because, often, I have to say very hard things- things about diet, sexual activity, lifestyle, things that I wish I didn't have to say. Things that make people cry. I have to say these things because I know that ultimately, those people will be the better for me having said them. But, my heart is sometimes heavy when I deliver a message that I know a person is not ready to hear.

I was speaking to a patient today and we were discussing what kept her strong during the early stages of treatment. Many people do well, super well, right away in treatment, while others struggle for months to acheive what feels like progress. This patient told me that somehow through the internet she was connected to a very very old patient of mine. This woman had gotten well, and herself went back to school to study homeopathy because her life was transformed by alternative medicine.

Treating IC has been one of the greatest challenges of my life. It has also been one of my greater pleasures. Watching people go from unhealthy to healthy is an amazing experience. It is also a huge lesson in psychology. We were required to take a year of psychology in school, during our master's level, but, I have to say that it was grossly inadequate. What I have learned in the last 12 years of practice could not be taught in school, or, if it could it would have taken much longer than a year to learn.

Bowel movements are fundamental to our health of course. When I began practicing, I used to ask people if they were constipated. Most of the time people would say, "no, never!" Well, I quickly learned to stop asking questions in that way because most people do not know the meaning of that word. I soon began to realize that most people answering my question were only going once per week. I actually had a patient this week tell me that her gastroenterologist told her, an MD, that going once per week is totally fine! That just is incredulous to me.

LAst year one of my patient's sons spilled mercury in her home, just a little and they had to get a professional clean up crew to come and get it all up and it was such a big deal. Knowing what I do about mercury filling I understood, but it still seemed amazing to me somehow that such a little thing could be so toxic--well, like so many other things that we are not aware of. In our clinic we use flourescent lighting because it is envirnmentally better bc it uses less enerfy and emits less heat. But, I never worried about a lightbulb breaking. So it is really good that I just read this.
